Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race Series
The Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race Series is one of the classics on the Caribbean circuit and offers a heady mix of inshore racing, the tactically tricky headline event Round Barbados Race and onshore festivities.
If you are looking for a hands-on experience, the relatively short courses will mean plenty of manoeuvres throughout the day and the opportunity to experience a challenging coastal race with differing wind and sea conditions as we pass from the Caribbean into the Atlantic and back again – perfect for a group of friends or a team-building exercise. Alternatively, if you’re simply after a taste of the excitement of Volvo 70 sailing while enjoying a cold beer with your clients, colleagues or friends our crew can do the sailing for you.
For the more adventurous sailors, there is an additional option to conclude your Round Barbados experience by sailing the 300 nautical mile Barbados to Antigua Ocean Race. Please let us know if you’re interested in adding this to your Round Barbados package (subject to sufficient numbers). For more information see the Mount Gay Round Barbados Race Series event website.

The Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race dates back to the 19th century and is based upon bragging rights for the fastest “Trading Schooner”.
This was a prize worth its weight in gold to captains in an era where prices for cargo arriving ahead of rival ships commanded a massive premium. Whilst most boats sailed for the honour of the fastest time, the consolation prize of a barrel of Mount Gay Rum for the slowest certainly spurred on some captains and had to be discontinued after two boats remained out at sea for days stalling to take the prize!
